Mercè Bruguera Abelló is a Catalan mezzo-soprano, pursuing a career as an international soloist both in the UK and throughout Europe. Well-acquainted with both operatic and song repertoire, she won the 2023 Critic’s Prize at the Palau de la Música Primer Palau scheme. She was also a semifinalist for the Tenor Viñas Competition 2023 as well as runner up in the 2024 LBS Bach Singers Prize.
Mercè has established herself as a familiar face at the top of the Europe's bustling early music scene, both soloistically, and as a member of some of the finest ensembles around the continent, including Jordi Savall’s La Capella Reial, Netherlands Bach Society, Jonathan Cohen’s Arcangelo and the Monteverdi Choir & Orchestras among others.
Recent highlights have included her debut at Palau de la Música performing Bach’s St Matthew Passion under Christoph Prégardien and making her debut as the role of ‘Dido’ in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas. She is also a 24/25 Young Artist of Juventudes Musicales España, performing a series of solo recitals around Spain, and is looking forward to performing in Bilbao with the London Handel Players later this year.
“Mercè Bruguera gives a striking performance as the vengeful Sorceress. With her tangy tone and composed, yet menacing, demeanour, she is a force to be reckoned with.”
